2012 Whiskey 10's

The Illinois Men’s Rugby Club fared very well at the Whiskey 10s tournament this past weekend. The second side played solid technical rugby against the likes of Marquette, DePaul, and the University of Chicago. The Illinois first side took second place overall, being scored on only by UW Whitewater. In pool play the Illini took down MSOE with a score of 33-0 and crushed Lewis 45-0. Although they lost to UW Whitewater in pool play, it was a close game ending 24-12. Advancing out of pool play with a wildcard seed because of a point differential of 90-24, the Illini impressively defeated the Division 1 University of Northern Iowa 19-0. In the finals Illinois played UW Whitewater for a second time. Illinois showed skill and heart, yet still fell to the two time defending DII National Champions 19-7.

Men of the Match: John Heaney and Sean Knoerzer.
